President Donald Trump has reportedly ordered his administration to assume control of the Washington, DC, police department and deploy the National Guard in the city for at least one month. According to White House statements, there will be a continuous presence of both local and federal law enforcement officers throughout the capital.

As per reports, authorities made 45 arrests on Wednesday night, including 29 individuals said to be living in the country without legal status. Officials stated that more than 1,650 personnel are now engaged in the operation. The Pentagon has clarified that while National Guard troops may temporarily detain individuals in support of law enforcement, they will not have the authority to make formal arrests.

Part of the federal effort reportedly involves clearing homeless encampments and relocating residents outside the city, though specifics of the plan have not been fully disclosed.

Separately, the Social Security program was signed into law 90 years ago by President Franklin D Roosevelt and continues to serve as a crucial income source for nearly 69 million Americans each month. While it remains broadly popular, reports indicate that it faces an ongoing financial shortfall. Since Trump assumed office, the agency has reportedly seen staffing reductions, legal disputes over data handling, and controversial remarks from administration officials, including unfounded claims about benefits being paid to deceased individuals.
