4 dead, 10 injured in mass shooting at California family gathering

Four people were killed and ten others injured in a mass shooting during a family gathering at a banquet hall in Stockton, Northern California, on Sunday. Authorities say early indications suggest the attack was targeted, though the shooters remain at large.
In a social media post, Jason Lee, Vice Mayor of Stockton, California expressed shock and grief over the tragedy, calling it “devastating and unacceptable.”
“Tonight, my heart is heavy in a way that’s hard to put into words,” Lee wrote. “A birthday party should never be a place where families fear for their lives… Stockton is my home. These are our families. This is our community.”
He added that he is in close contact with city staff and public safety officials to understand exactly what happened and vowed to push for full accountability.
He further said that San Joaquin County Sheriff, Stockton Police Captain Morris, and City Manager Ford said he had absolute confidence in the Sheriff’s leadership and confirmed that multiple agencies are already coordinating the investigation.
“This moment is not about politics, it’s about people. It’s about children, parents, and an entire community trying to make sense of something that should never have happened,” he said, urging residents to come forward with any information.
