A tragic train accident occurred in southwestern Germany on Sunday evening, resulting in the deaths of at least three individuals and injuries to several others, as per reports.
The incident took place around 6.10 pm local time near the town of Riedlingen, located in the Baden-Württemberg state, approximately 158 kilometres west of Munich.
According to police statements cited in multiple reports, around 100 passengers were onboard the regional train when it derailed in a forested area. Initial visuals from the site showed multiple coaches overturned, with emergency personnel carrying out rescue operations to assist trapped passengers.
It is reportedly suspected that heavy rain and stormy weather may have contributed to the derailment, although authorities have not stated the exact cause of the accident.
So far, officials have confirmed the deaths of three people. The exact number of those injured has not yet been officially released.
