2-year-old child dies of hunger after eating diapers, drywall in US, parents arrested

In an incident that can shock you,  a starving 2-year-old was forced to eat diapers and pieces of wall. The baby boy died tragically in the state of Indiana, USA. As per reports, the negligence of his parents coupled with hunger of the child named Eric Reichardt led him to eat diaper gel and drywall. Police have arrested the child’s parents.

According to police and court records, on March 31 at 1.20 pm, the boy’s father, Trevor Reichardt-Hayes (39), called 911 to report that his son was not breathing. However, an investigation revealed that the couple did not call police until 14 hours after the child was last seen alive. When police arrived at the scene, officers were shocked to see the child’s condition.

The postmortem report and police investigation have revealed chilling details. The 2-year-old child weighed only 15 pounds, which is extremely low for his age. The child's body had multiple wounds and insect bite marks. Diaper gel and pieces of wall paper were reportedly found in the child’s stomach. The mother admitted that the child was eating his diaper due to hunger.

Investigators reportedly said the house was in a very dirty condition. The child’s room was covered in dirt, faeces and vermin, while the parents’ room was surprisingly clean and tidy. Two other children living in the house were also malnourished and were taken to hospital. Police have arrested Trevor Reichardt-Hayes and his mother, Catherine Carter (31), on charges of murder and child neglect.
