At least one person was killed and 12 others injured in a reported mass shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in Hickory, a city in Catawba County, western North Carolina, as per reports.

The incident reportedly took place around 12.45 am (local time) during a house party that drew a large crowd, reportedly including high school students from nearby areas. Eyewitness accounts described chaotic scenes as gunfire erupted, sending attendees scrambling for cover.

Local news channel stated that the gathering had drawn over 100 people. Panic reportedly broke out when the shots were fired, with individuals seen running in all directions and seeking shelter.

According to authorities, one victim is currently in critical condition, and multiple others have been hospitalised. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

The Hickory Police Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are leading the investigation, with support from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). No arrests have been made so far, and it remains unclear how many shooters may have been involved or what led to the violence.
