The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has shared details about a major action against food adulteration in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh. During a recent enforcement drive, officials seized around 15,000 kilograms of suspected adulterated honey worth nearly ₹22 lakh. FSSAI shared pictures of the operation on social media platform X, showing officials inspecting and seizing the honey stock at the spot. The authority said the action was taken by the Uttar Pradesh Food Safety Department as part of its ongoing campaign against adulterated food products. According to FSSAI, food safety officers inspected several large containers filled with honey and collected samples for laboratory testing. The samples will be checked to find out whether the honey meets food safety standards. Officials have not yet released the final test results. Food adulteration has become a major concern in many parts of the country, especially in products like milk, paneer, spices, oil, and honey. Adulterated food can pose serious health risks to consumers, including stomach infections and other health problems. Food safety departments regularly conduct raids and inspections to prevent the sale of unsafe food items in markets. Under the Food Safety and Standards Act, authorities have the power to seize food products that do not meet safety standards. Samples collected during raids are sent to government laboratories for detailed testing. If products are found unsafe or adulterated, strict legal action can be taken against manufacturers and suppliers, including fines and cancellation of licenses. This is not the first such operation in the state. A few days earlier, the Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration carried out a raid in Aligarh, where around 1,664 kilograms of paneer was seized during inspections of dairy product storage and supply units. Earlier in Ghaziabad, officials seized nearly 900 kilograms of cheese that was found unfit for human consumption. The stock, valued at around ₹2.25 lakh, was later destroyed by authorities.
