The sharp rise of ₹933 in commercial LPG cylinder prices in India have added to the problems of restaurants, street food vendors, caterers, and small food businesses. The price of commercial gas cylinders has increased by ₹1500 in a single year, with 19 kg cylinder now priced at more than ₹3,000 in cities such as Delhi.

This sudden price rise is expected to make food more expensive for customers. Small businesses that depend on LPG for cooking are already struggling with high costs and low customer demand. This increase may force them to raise prices, reduce food portions, or even cut jobs. Many small eateries and roadside stalls will be hit the hardest as their profit margins are low. Some business owners say they may have to close temporarily if the situation does not improve. Caterers are also facing delays in getting gas cylinders, making things more difficult.

While domestic LPG prices for households have not increased, the impact of commercial LPG is being felt by the public through higher food prices. Experts believe this could lead to inflation and reduce spending by people. The government has been encouraging businesses to switch to piped natural gas (PNG), which is safer and provides continuous supply. However, it is not easy for small businesses to switch easily as PNG connections are not available everywhere and installation costs are high.

As per reports, economists warn that this price hike may affect the larger economy. As food becomes expensive, people may spend less, which can hurt small suppliers, workers, and local markets. For now, the price hike may not look big in official data, but on the ground, it is creating serious challenges for small businesses and everyday consumers.
