FSSAI Orders Recall Of ‘Wonderland Raisins’ After Tests Find Excess Pesticide Residues

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has ordered Sun Organic Industries Private Limited to recall an entire batch of its ‘Wonderland Raisins’ after laboratory tests detected pesticide residues above the prescribed safety limits.

Samples declared unsafe by two laboratories

According to FSSAI, a regulatory sample of Wonderland Raisins was collected by a Central Food Safety Officer (CFSO) from its Northern Region Office.

Testing found that the product failed to meet standards prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards (Food Product Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011.

The sample was declared unsafe by both the National Food Laboratory in Ghaziabad and the Referral Laboratory at NIFTEM-K after pesticide residues were detected beyond the maximum permissible limits.

“A recall order has been issued to Sun Organic Industries Private Limited after regulatory samples of Wonderland Raisins were found unsafe due to pesticide residues exceeding the prescribed limits,” FSSAI said in a post on X.

Company directed to recall entire batch

Following the test results, the food regulator directed Sun Organic Industries to immediately recall the entire affected batch in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards (Food Recall Procedure) Regulations, 2017.

The company has also been asked to submit details and periodic status reports on the recall, maintain records of recovered products and take corrective measures to prevent similar incidents.

The recall has been initiated under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, which allows the regulator to order the withdrawal of food products found unsafe for human consumption.
