Unruly hair? Troublesome skin allergies? Even pesky digestive issues? All these have a single potential solution: that humble aloe vera plant in your garden. So, instead of breaking the bank on expensive anti-ageing potions and fancy hair care concoctions, try using this natural product.

Aloe vera for skin care

Skin absorbs aloe vera up to four times faster than water. It unclogs skin pores and provides moisture and nutrients to the skin. Its antiseptic properties also aid in the elimination of any skin infections.

It also cures wounds, soothes minor burns, and slows the ageing process of the skin. It helps in the elimination of tan, sunburn, acne, and the treatment of stretch marks.

Iranian Journal of Medical Sciences in its 2019 study mentions that the other uses of aloe vera are to prevent skin ulcers, treat burn wounds, manage post operative wounds, and chronic wounds including pressure ulcers.

Healthy scalp and hair care with aloe vera

Dandruff and itchy scalp

Fresh aloe vera and virgin coconut oil are a great mixture to cure itchy scalp and get strong, smooth and bouncy hair. A study1 about effects of aloe vera emulsion in the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis revealed that the fatty acids found in the aloe plant have anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce scalp inflammation, ultimately curing dandruff.

Deeply cleanses the oily scalp

An NIH study2 noted that the plant cleanses the hair shaft and removes extra sebum oil and other residue from chemical-infused hair products.

Hair growth and hair repair

Aloe vera is loaded with vitamins A, C and E which contribute to healthy cell growth and result in shiny, smooth hair, according to research3. Aloe vera gel also contains vitamin B12 and folic acid which can reduce hair fall.

Aloe vera for weight loss and diabetes

Many studies and also Ayurveda claim that aloe vera is a natural laxative. Consuming aloe vera juice strengthens digestion, clears toxins from the digestive system, improves the functioning of kidneys, liver, and gallbladder and boosts metabolism4.

Aloe vera juice is also reportedly helpful in reducing blood sugar levels, making it a right fit for those looking to check their diabetes and weight.

Interestingly, consuming aloe vera juice can help prevent blood sugar spikes and crashes, which can lead to symptoms like increased hunger and cravings.

While the multi-purpose aloe vera juices and gels are easily available in stores, they are also very easy to grow in your homes too.
