20% young Indians prediabetic, majority lack vitamin D, warn experts

A recent report by Apollo Hospitals has revealed worrying health trends among young Indians. It says that nearly 20% of people in their 20s are prediabetic, which means their blood sugar levels are higher than normal and they are at risk of developing diabetes in the future. At the same time, around 70% of young adults are facing Vitamin D deficiency, which is important for strong bones and a healthy immune system.
The report is based on more than 30 lakh health check-ups done in 2025. It highlights that many health problems are increasing but often go unnoticed. One major concern is fitness levels. Almost two-thirds of people below 30 years have poor strength, flexibility, or balance. This can lead to heart-related problems, risk of falls, and even a shorter life span if not taken seriously.
The problem is not limited to one group. Among college students aged 17 to 25, about two out of three were found to have at least one health issue. Working professionals are also affected. Around 50% of people in their late 30s are either prediabetic or diabetic, and nearly 80% are overweight. This clearly shows that unhealthy lifestyle habits are becoming common.
The report also talks about women’s health. It found that some women above 40 had breast cancer without any symptoms. Issues like anaemia and obesity are also rising among women, so regular health check-ups are very important.
Experts say that every person is different, so health care should also be personalised. They also stress that doing regular tests is not enough and people must follow proper treatment and make lifestyle changes to stay healthy.
