A shocking case of assault has come to light in Chandkheda, where a 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a Zomato delivery boy who had been frequenting her residential society for deliveries.

In a distressing incident reported to the Chandkheda Police Station, the accused, identified as Jay Parmar, a delivery personnel with the food delivery platform Zomato, was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting on a minor girl. The victim, a 13-year-old resident of the area, filed a complaint detailing the harrowing ordeal, prompting swift action by the police.

As per the police complaint and preliminary investigations, Parmar, who has been employed with Zomato for over a year, regularly delivered orders to the girl's society. During these interactions, he reportedly slipped her a piece of paper with his mobile number, initiating contact. The two subsequently connected on social media, where their communication escalated.

On the day of the incident, the girl left her home under the pretext of purchasing utensils from a nearby market. Instead, she met Parmar, who arranged for a rickshaw and took her to Mehmedpur, a locality in Ahmedabad. There, against her will, Parmar allegedly assaulted her sexually. The victim, traumatised, returned home and confided in her family, leading to the immediate filing of a police complaint.

Parmar, upon learning of the complaint, fled to Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh but was apprehended by police upon his return to Ahmedabad. He has been charged under relevant sections of the BNS relating to rape and offences against minors.

The accused hails from a modest background, with a younger sister and brother. Police sources indicate that the investigation is ongoing, with efforts to gather digital evidence from social media interactions and witness statements from the society.

D V Rana, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), L Division, stated, "This is a grave matter involving the safety of a minor. We have arrested the accused based on the victim's statement and are ensuring a thorough probe."
