Youth, woman electrocuted after scooter falls into waterlogged pit in Narol

A 27-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man were electrocuted after their scooter fell into a waterlogged pit in Narol’s Matan Gali area late on Monday night.
According to police, the incident took place around 10.45 pm on September 8, when the two were riding a Honda Activa. The vehicle toppled into a large ditch filled with rainwater that had reportedly become electrified due to current leakage. Both victims suffered fatal electric shocks.
The deceased have been identified as Ankita Rajan (27) and Rajan Harjivan (32), residents of D/101, Rudra Green Flats near Narol police station. Police said preliminary findings suggest electrocution as the cause of death.
Fire brigade personnel and a 108 emergency team rushed to the spot, but rescue efforts were delayed as the water had live current. The teams sought the help of the electricity company to shut down power supply in the area before retrieving the bodies.
The Narol police registered an Accidental Death case and further investigation is on.
Officials said the bodies have been sent for post-mortem and efforts are under way to inform extended family members.
The incident has sparked concern over civic safety in Ahmedabad. Residents alleged that open and unmarked pits across the city, particularly in waterlogged areas, have become death traps. “What appeared to be just another flooded ditch turned into a fatal trap due to suspected electric leakage,” said a senior police officer.
