Youth who killed elderly woman, robbed her to fund birthday celebration held in Ahmedabad

The Ahmedabad City Police have cracked the murder case of a 65-year-old woman killed in her home in Khokhra last month, arresting a 26-year-old man who allegedly strangled her to death during a failed robbery attempt.
The incident took place on September 11, when Dhaniben Ramabhai Vaghela, a resident of Khokhra, was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her residence. Initial investigation revealed that her gold ornaments and cash were missing, suggesting that the motive behind the killing was theft.
During the course of investigation, the police identified Sachin Bhupendrabhai Thakor, a local resident, as the prime suspect. The accused, police said, had planned the crime to arrange money for his upcoming birthday celebration.
“Thakor had gone to the woman’s house intending to render her unconscious and steal her gold ornaments and cash. However, in the process, he pressed her neck with excessive force, leading to her death,” said DCP (Zone 5) Jitendra Agrawal.
After committing the crime, the accused fled from the spot. Based on technical surveillance and local intelligence, the Khokhra police tracked down and arrested Thakor. Evidence linking him to the murder and theft, including the stolen valuables, has been recovered.
The DCP added that Thakor has been booked under sections of murder and robbery under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and further investigation is underway to ascertain whether he had any accomplices.
