Youth vandalises Ramdevpir temple in Bapunagar, held by locals

Tension prevailed in Bapunagar on Wednesday morning after a youth allegedly vandalised idols at a Ramdevpir temple near Soneriya Block in Rakhial, shouting religious slogans.

According to police, the incident occurred in the early hours when the accused entered the temple premises and damaged the idol. Locals who gathered at the spot caught hold of him and handed him over to the Bapunagar police station.

Senior officers said the accused’s identity has been established, and he is being questioned to ascertain the motive behind the act. The damaged idol has been secured, and arrangements are being made for its replacement.

Police have deployed additional personnel in the area to prevent any untoward incidents. “The situation is under control, and the accused is in custody. Necessary legal action is being taken,” an officer said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the youth is suffering from some mental issue, and further investigation is going on in the matter

Residents expressed outrage over the incident, with community members demanding strict action against the vandalism.
