Youth found dead in hotel room in Ahmedabad, minor girl found with him hospitalised

A young man was found dead while a minor girl was rescued in an unconscious condition following an alleged suicide attempt at a hotel in Ahmedabad’s Bhat area late Wednesday afternoon, police said.

According to the police, the control room received a call stating that a young man and a girl were lying unconscious inside a room at the Daily Stay Inn hotel in Bhat. Acting on the alert, a police team rushed to the spot and found both occupants unresponsive inside the room.

As both were unconscious, a 108 ambulance was immediately called. The ambulance medical staff declared the youth, identified as Ram Bharwad, dead on the spot. The minor girl, who was found to be breathing, was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment, where her condition is stated to be stable.

Preliminary investigation revealed that both were natives of Kadvasan village in Mandal taluka and had recently moved to Shela, where they were living in a rented accommodation. Police said the two were in a relationship but were unable to marry as they were related as uncle and niece, which allegedly led them to take the extreme step.

“Initial findings suggest that the couple had first planned to end their lives by jumping into a canal. However, due to fear, they went to the hotel instead, where they attempted suicide,” said V N Yadav, Assistant Commissioner of Police, G Division.

Police said that inside the hotel room, both allegedly attempted suicide by self-harm, and the youth was also found to have attempted hanging. The exact sequence of events is being verified as part of the investigation.

The Airport police have registered a case of accidental death and initiated further probe to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
