Youth disguised as woman robs neighbour in Kutch, nabbed

Frustrated with his low wages, a Kutch native who works in Ahmedabad, carried out a robbery in a unique manner in Kutch to help his family financially.

The man, identified as Harsh Patel, had been employed in Ahmedabad for the past seven months.

To assist his family financially, Patel disguised as a woman to rob a neighbouring house in Kutch on December 30. Patel allegedly threw red chili powder in 51-year-old neighbour Manjula Patel's eyes before stealing gold worth ₹1.15 lakh.

The Kutch police registered a complaint and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to nab the accused.

The team reviewed footage from around 198 CCTV cameras and analysed 900 GB of data, eventually identifying the accused, Patel, who had disguised himself as a woman while committing the crime.

Later, the police received a tip-off that Patel would be travelling to Gandhidham by train via Ahmedabad.

Following which, police arrested Patel from the Gandhidham railway station parking lot. The accused confessed to the crime and stated that he had taken a gold loan worth ₹55,000 using the stolen chain from one of the banks in Kutch. The clothes Patel wore during the theft were also seized by the police.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Patel had committed the theft in an attempt to help his family and had carried out the crime in crime patrol-style.
