Youth brutally assaulted near Noblenagar in Ahmedabad, questions raised over law and order

A shocking incident highlighting serious concerns over law and order came to light near the Noblenagar in Ahmedabad late on March 3, where a youth was brutally attacked in full public view. The victim, who was reportedly on his way to a police station due to a personal dispute, was intercepted on the road and assaulted by four unidentified men armed with wooden sticks.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers began thrashing the youth indiscriminately, landing repeated blows despite women raising alarm and attempting to intervene. Even as passers-by tried to stop the assault, the attackers showed no restraint and continued beating the victim mercilessly.
The situation worsened when the assailants also turned on the women who tried to rescue the youth. One woman sustained serious injuries after being struck repeatedly with sticks, leaving her hand swollen and bleeding. The incident, which occurred on a busy public road, was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage.
On receiving information, police teams from Sardarnagar Police Station and Airport Police Station rushed to the spot. However, instead of immediately assisting the seriously injured victims, a dispute reportedly arose between the two police stations over jurisdiction. As the injured lay waiting for help, precious time was lost in determining territorial limits, drawing sharp criticism from the victim’s family and local residents.
The injured woman and her relatives expressed strong anger, stating that they would continue seeking justice even if it meant risking their lives. They alleged that antisocial elements in Ahmedabad have grown increasingly fearless, with neither the law nor the police acting as a deterrent. The family accused the police of negligence and laxity, claiming that such attitudes have emboldened criminals and contributed to the city’s deteriorating law-and-order situation.
The incident, coming during the Holi festival period, has once again raised serious questions about police response, accountability and public safety in Ahmedabad.
