A young man was brutally beaten with sticks and stabbed to death near the Kankaria Football ground in Ahmedabad, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place late on the night of January 14 in the Maninagar area, triggering panic in the locality.

According to the police, the murder was the result of an old rivalry following a previous altercation. On receiving information about the attack, teams from Kagadapith and Maninagar police stations rushed to the spot, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to nab the accused.

Background of the case

The complaint has been filed by 23-year-old Rahul Rathod, a resident of Amraiwadi, regarding the murder of his younger brother Chirag Rathod. In his complaint, Rahul named Manthan alias Rutvik Parmar, Jaydeep Shah, Harshil Shah and Vijay alias V P Parmar as the accused.

Police said the accused allegedly called Chirag to the Kankaria Football Ground on the pretext of a compromise. The incident occurred around 9.45 pm on Uttarayan night. Investigations have revealed that Manthan and his associates had allegedly planned the attack in advance due to lingering enmity over an earlier dispute.

As soon as Chirag and his friend Nayan reached the spot, an argument broke out, which soon escalated into a violent clash. All four accused allegedly assaulted Chirag with sticks. During the attack, Manthan reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Chirag multiple times on the right side of his abdomen.

Chirag sustained critical injuries and died on the spot. Friends, including Nayan and Gaurang Makwana, were present at the scene and are eyewitnesses to the incident.

Police have registered a case of murder and said efforts are on to trace and arrest the absconding accused.
