A 22-year-old labourer from Amraiwadi was allegedly attacked with a wooden paddle and sustained head injuries after a street quarrel turned violent on Tuesday night. Police said the incident took place near Sheetalnagar Line-6 when the accused, a resident, picked a fight with the complainant and his friend.

As per the FIR lodged at Amraiwadi police station by Sahil Jashbhai Solanki (22), he and his friend Mayur Khengarbhai Gohil (19) were standing on the road near Sheetalnagar around 9 pm on August 27 when the accused, identified only as Bhavin Ganpatbhai, began ‘joking’ with Mayur. When Mayur refused to respond, Bhavin allegedly abused him, picked a quarrel and started assaulting him.

Bhavin soon returned with a wooden paddle and attacked the youths. In the scuffle, Solanki was struck on the left cheek and later fell, suffering a serious injury to the back of his head. He alleged that Bhavin threatened both him and Mayur with dire consequences if they reported the matter to the police.

Residents intervened and rescued the youths, following which Solanki was taken in an 108 ambulance to LG Hospital, where he received treatment.

Police said an FIR has been registered against Bhavin under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for assault, abuse and criminal intimidation. Further investigation is on.

“We are verifying the sequence of events and recording statements of eyewitnesses. The accused, a resident of Baliyanagar, is absconding and efforts are on to trace him,” a police officer said.
