Younger brother bludgeons elder sibling to death over domestic dispute in Saraspur

A long-standing dispute over household expenses between two unemployed brothers in Saraspur took a violent turn on Sunday morning, when the younger brother allegedly beat his elder sibling to death with a cricket bat. Following a complaint filed by their mother, Shaherkotda police have registered a case of murder and arrested the accused.

According to police, 70-year-old Bittiben Kushwaha lives in Saraspur with her two sons, Kanaiyasinh and Ashvinsinh, both of whom are unemployed. The brothers frequently quarrelled over money matters, especially regarding household expenses.

On the night of July 12, an argument broke out between the two at their home. Their mother intervened and managed to separate them, after which the family retired to bed. However, on the morning of 13 July, the quarrel resumed and escalated into a physical altercation.

Neighbours rushed in after hearing the commotion and helped defuse the situation. They also took Bittiben to their home to calm her down. But shortly after, the brothers clashed again. In a fit of rage, Ashvinsinh allegedly struck his elder brother Kanaiyasinh multiple times with a cricket bat, leaving him severely injured and bleeding.

Ashvinsinh fled the scene while Bittiben rushed her injured son to the hospital. Initially, police registered a case of attempted murder based on her complaint. However, Kanaiyasinh succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning during treatment.

Following the death, police added murder charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and arrested Ashvinsinh. Further investigation is currently underway.
