According to the IMD, February already recorded temperatures above normal in many parts of Gujarat. Now, heatwave conditions may begin from early March itself.
On Friday, the highest temperature in the state was recorded at 33.8°C in Rajkot and Bhuj, while Ahmedabad and Surendranagar recorded 33°C. However, due to cyclonic circulation over Kutch, the heat index remained slightly lower for the second consecutive day. Experts say the cooling effect is temporary, and stronger heat will begin soon.
The Meteorological Department has advised people to:
Avoid going out in direct sunlight.
Wear light-colored, loose-fitting cotton clothes.
Avoid dark and tight clothing.
Cover the head while going outside.
Drink enough water to stay hydrated.
Health officials say elderly people, children, and outdoor workers should take extra care during this period.
Weather experts also believe that planting more trees and protecting water sources in both cities and villages can help reduce heat naturally. Trees provide shade, and water bodies help cool the surrounding air. In crowded cities with fewer green areas, the heat feels stronger during summer.
Authorities are monitoring the situation and may issue further alerts if temperatures continue to rise.
