Yellow alert issued over 10 district in Gujarat for Friday as monsoon sets in

Rainfall has cast its spell across over 20 districts including Ahmedabad. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Friday in south Gujarat and Saurashtra.

“Heavy rain is likely in Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, the Dangs, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath and Diu on Friday,” said IMD on Thursday.

Moreover, districts including Ahmedabad, Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, and Vadodara are likely to witness light thunderstorms with lightning and surface wind 30-40 km/h.

“Monsoon was vigorous over Gujarat region, normal over Saurashtra- Kutch,” said IMD. Today, heavy rain lashed Navsari, the Dangs, Saman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and Valsad.

As of 4 pm on Thursday, light to very heavy rainfall was recorded in 92 talukas across the state. Among the highest recorded were 4.49 inches in Kaprada (Valsad), 4.25 inches in Dharampur, 3.9 inches in Umargam, 3.86 inches in Khergam (Navsari), 3.58 inches in Hansot (Bharuch), 3.5 inches in Olpad (Surat), and 3.43 inches in Vadhai (Dang). Meanwhile, over 63 talukas received less than 1 inch of rainfall.
