Yellow alert in Ahmedabad as mercury forecast to cross 43°C

A 'yellow alert' of heat has been issued in Ahmedabad city for seven consecutive days from today.
According to the forecast of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature in the city may rise to 43°C by the end of this week.
As per reports, the Health Department of Amdavad Municipal Corporation has declared a total of 76 areas of the city as 'heat hotspots' with the help of satellite data and modern technology.
The maximum number of hotspots, 12, has been recorded in Lambha ward in East Ahmedabad. Apart from this, areas like Vatva, Ramol, Vastral and Ranip are also likely to experience high heat. Especially between 12 noon and 5 pm, the mercury will reach the sky.
The temperature is likely to remain around 43°C on the AMC polling day on April 26. The administration has appealed to voters and workers to take precautions to avoid heatstroke.
Special advisory for citizens by AMC:
Precautions: Avoid going out without work between 12 and 4 pm. Wear light-colored cotton clothes and use an umbrella, hat, or handkerchief when going out.
Hydration: Even if you don't feel thirsty, keep drinking enough water, buttermilk, lemonade, or coconut water.
Food: Avoid stale food and excessive protein-rich diet. Reduce the amount of tea, coffee and soda.
Special care: Take special care of young children, pregnant women and the elderly.
If you experience symptoms like headache, dizziness, or nausea, you are advised to immediately contact the nearest urban health center or hospital.
Today, Vadodara and Deesa recorded a temperature of 39.6°C, while Bhuj recorded 39.2°C. However, the heat index remained low in coastal areas, with Veraval recording 31.3°C and Dwarka recording 30.5°C, providing relief to the people. Rajkot was the hottest city in the state with a temperature of 41.1°C . People in Amreli also suffered from the heat as the temperature reached 40.9°C, as per reports.
