Worker killed, another injured after crane collapse at Safal’s Mondeal-2 construction site in Ahmedabad

A crane operator was killed and another worker seriously injured after a goods crane collapsed at an under-construction residential project by Safal builders on ISKCON-Ambli Road in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

The incident took place at 10.30 am at the Mondeal-2 scheme located opposite the DoubleTree by Hilton Ahmedabad, where painting and finishing work was under way.

According to police, the crane wire snapped while goods were being lifted to the fourth floor, causing the crane to plunge from the fifth floor.

The crane operator, identified as Avinash Brahmabhatt, suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot. Another worker, Ramanbhai, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Satellite Police Station has registered a case of accidental death and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has cancelled the construction permit for the site as part of its action following the accident. Civic authorities also issued a notice seeking an explanation from those responsible and ordered construction work at the site to be halted.
