Women learners assigned male coaches in Ahmedabad swimming pools cause uproar

Women swimmers in Ahmedabad are deprived of coaching at public pools despite paying the fees, owing to an ongoing protest by the women instructors in the city.
Moreover, on Saturday, they voiced a detest as they were allotted a male coach instead of a female coach due to staff shortage. The women swimmers gave a fierce presentation and refused to train under a male coach.
According to reports, part-time female swimming coaches are protesting over pending contract renewal and discrepancy in payment by the contractors. As a result, over 13 corporation-run swimming pools including Vasna, Kankaria, Ranip, CTM, Vadaj, and Odhav are operating without female coaches.
“The contract of the female coach is renewed every six months. However, after the recent contract ended on May 6, it has not yet been renewed,” said a councillor of Gomtipura.
As per reports, despite working as a coach with AMC for over 18 years, the woman part-time swimming coach only earns ₹9,000 per month, much lesser than the amount decided by their contract.
