A 45-year-old homemaker has lodged a complaint after her gold chain was allegedly stolen amid heavy rush at the Ghodasar BRTS bus stand in Ahmedabad on Sunday evening.

According to Isanpur police, the incident took place around 5.30 pm on March 1.

Ushaben Girishbhai Joshi, a resident of Nana Chiloda, stated that she had visited her sister’s residence in Ghodasar on February 26 and was returning home on Sunday evening.

Joshi reached the Ghodasar BRTS bus stand around 5.30 pm and purchased a ticket before waiting in the seating area. Shortly thereafter, a bus travelling from Narol towards Hanspura arrived, prompting a surge of commuters attempting to board.

As there was a crowd and pushing while getting into the bus, she boarded and the bus started moving. After a short while she realised that her gold chain was missing, said a police official.

An unidentified person took advantage of the jostling at the bus stand and stealthily removed the gold chain weighing approximately 7 grams, valued at ₹35,000, without her knowledge.

Joshi immediately informed her son, Divyaraj Joshi. The duo returned to the Ghodasar BRTS bus stand to search for the ornament, but it could not be traced.

Her son subsequently dialled the emergency helpline 112, following which they were directed to approach Isanpur Police Station to register a complaint.

Police have registered a case of theft against an unknown person and initiated investigation.

Officials said CCTV footage from the BRTS station and the bus is being examined to identify the suspect.

No arrests had been made at the time of filing this report.
