Woman who attempted self immolation during AMC demolition drive in Jashodanagar dies

The woman who had attempted self-immolation during the protest against demolition in Jashodanagar, Ahmedabad has died. 

She had set herself on fire in protest against the demolition. Today, she passed away while undergoing treatment at LG Hospital. The woman had suffered severe burns in the self-immolation attempt. Following her death, her family members created an uproar.

What happened?

The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC)  estate team had visited the area near Jayshree Society, Jashodanagar, to serve notices and carry out demolitions. During the operation, a woman attempted to immolate herself. She was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.

Local residents alleged that the AMC was harassing shop owners under the pretext of demolition and was demanding ₹2 lakh from them. They staged a protest with banners after one shop was demolished by the AMC.
