The Sola High Court Police have launched an investigation after a woman posing as a customer allegedly stole a gold ring worth ₹90,000 from a jewellery showroom in Gota last week.

According to the FIR filed by Vipul Hirabhai Joshi, a 31-year-old salesman at Veerkrupa Jewellers, the incident took place on November 28 at the showroom located at GF-5, Vishwas City-5, Satyamev Vista Road.

The accused, described as a woman aged around 50 years and believed to be a resident of the Ashram Road area, visited the showroom shortly before 1.45 pm claiming she wanted to purchase jewellery for a family wedding.

Joshi stated that his colleague, Ashwin Prajapati, attended to her and displayed several designs of gold rings and earrings. After selecting five rings and a pair of earrings, the woman reportedly told the staff that she was stepping out to withdraw cash from an ATM located opposite the shop. She did not return.

During the routine stock verification conducted later, the staff discovered that a gold ring weighing 6.440 grams and designed with an ‘Om’ was missing. On reviewing the CCTV footage, the employees found that the woman had discreetly kept two rings aside, left one behind and concealed another ring before leaving the shop.

The stolen ring is estimated to be worth ₹90,000.

The Sola High Court Police on Tuesday arrested the woman from Rajasthan, solving a theft case through CCTV analysis and technical surveillance.

The accused has been identified as Reema, wife of Javed Ahmed, aged 47, a resident of Naseem, Rishikesh Road, Mansur, Abu Road, Sirohi district in Rajasthan. Further inquiry is underway to determine whether the accused is involved in similar thefts in Ahmedabad or neighbouring districts.
