Woman kills son-in-law with brick over domestic dispute in Lambha, Ahmedabad

A 55-year-old woman was arrested by the Narol police early on Friday for allegedly killing her son-in-law following a heated domestic dispute at her residence in Lambha, Ahmedabad. The accused, identified as Dinaben Jagdishbhai Vegda, allegedly struck her son-in-law Pareshbhai Laljibhai Tadvi (27) multiple times with a brick and a wooden stick, resulting in his death.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged by Pareshbhai’s wife, Anjali Tadvi, the incident occurred around 10.30 pm on Friday at Dinaben’s house in Indiranagar, Lambha. The complaint states that Paresh had arrived at the house along with his friend Jignesh aka Gogo Baldevbhai Shrimali, and confronted his mother-in-law, demanding to know why she was keeping Anjali at her residence and refusing to send her back to his house.
An argument ensued between Paresh and Dinaben, during which the former allegedly abused her and attempted to attack her with a weapon he carried in his pocket. In retaliation, Dinaben reportedly picked up a brick lying nearby and struck him on the head. As Paresh fell to the floor, she allegedly hit him again with a wooden stick on his legs, wrists, and head.
Anjali, along with her sisters Sangeeta and Sonal, who were present during the incident, rushed to call the emergency services. Paresh was taken first to L G Hospital and later referred to Civil Hospital, Asarwa, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead around 2.45 am on Saturday.
The complainant told police that she and Paresh had been married since December 2019 and had no children. The couple had recently returned from Paresh’s native village in Ankleshwar, Rajpipla, after a series of marital disputes.
Anjali said that her husband had been quarrelling with her for the past week and had previously turned up at her mother’s house to pick fights.
Narol police officials said, “Preliminary investigation suggests that the altercation turned violent when the deceased allegedly tried to attack his mother-in-law. She retaliated in panic, leading to the fatal injuries. We are verifying the statements of eyewitnesses and have sent the body for post-mortem examination.”
The police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and detained Dinaben for questioning.
Further investigation is underway to determine whether the act was committed in self-defence or in the heat of the moment.
