A 21-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide after a private video involving her and her partner was circulated without her consent. The Chandkheda police have registered a case against two men for abetment to suicide and outraging the modesty of a woman, following a detailed complaint lodged by the deceased’s close friend.
The deceased, identified as Muskan Chauhan, a resident of Sanand, had reportedly been in a long-term relationship with one Mohit alias Mitraj Ishwarbhai Makwana, a resident of Naranpura. According to Chandkheda police officials, an objectionable video involving the two was initially stored on Mohit's phone and later obtained by another man, identified as Hardik Rabari.
On the evening of July 2, Muskan, accompanied by her friend Kajalben and the latter’s husband, was informed by Rabari over a phone call that he had seen the nude video on Mohit’s phone and had saved it on his device. The trio then went to meet Rabari near the Vaishnodevi Circle, where he allegedly showed the video to Muskan. Subsequently, they confronted Mohit near the Jaguar showroom and demanded that the video be deleted.
When Mohit initially refused, Muskan called the police. A PCR van from Sola police station arrived, and all parties were taken to the police station where, in the presence of police officers, Mohit deleted the video from his device. The parties reportedly reached a compromise and went their separate ways.
However, Muskan remained distressed. On July 3, she informed Kajalben that she was going for an outing with a friend, Jayraj Singh, and expressed her fear and emotional distress over the video incident. That night, she informed Kajalben she would be late and did not return home.
The next morning, around 7 am on July 4, Jayraj Singh contacted Kajalben, asking her to come to his residence at Jagatpur’s Sunrise Homes located near Godrej Garden City, immediately. Upon arrival, she found Muskan lying motionless on the ground, having allegedly fallen from the 14th floor of Singh’s apartment block.
Following the incident, Muskan’s mother informed Kajalben about the existence of the video and the emotional trauma her daughter had endured. In her complaint, Kajalben alleged that both Mohit Makwana and Hardik Rabari were responsible for pushing Muskan towards suicide by circulating and showing the obscene video.
During investigation, Chandkheda police found that Muskan had jumped from the 14th floor of the apartment.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested the boyfriend of the victim, while the search for the other accused is on. Police have booked both the men under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including abetment of suicide and outraging the modesty of a woman.
The value of monetary transactions involved, including a loan of ₹1,000 and a pledged gold chain, is being considered by investigators as part of the context of the case. The incident has raised fresh concerns over digital privacy violations and the emotional toll of online harassment, especially involving intimate content.
