Woman files domestic cruelty complaint against husband in Ahmedabad

A 34-year-old woman has lodged a police complaint alleging sustained mental and physical harassment by her husband, accusing him of domestic cruelty and abandonment, police said on Monday.
The complainant, identified as Priyaben Aartani, a resident of Sindhi Colony in Sardarnagar, approached the Airport Police Station in Ahmedabad city on December 30, stating that her husband Jayeshbhai Jaate-Aartani had repeatedly subjected her to abuse over the past several years.
In her complaint, the woman said she was married to Jayeshbhai in 2013 as per community customs, following a proposal arranged by relatives. The couple initially lived together at their residence in Jawahar Colony and has two daughters, a 10-year-old and a 2-year-old.
She alleged that while the marriage was stable in the initial years, her husband’s behaviour changed over the past three years, during which he began frequently quarrelling with her, denying financial support for household expenses and subjecting her to mental and physical torture.
The complainant further alleged that since December 5, 2025, her husband has completely stopped communicating with her and has been missing from the house for the past week without any intimation. She claimed that his mobile phones were switched off and alleged that he was in contact with another woman.
According to the complaint, the alleged harassment included repeated demands for money, abuse related to household work and prolonged emotional distress. The woman told police that she was left without financial support and was compelled to approach the authorities seeking legal action.
Police said the FIR has been registered at the Airport Police Station, and the case has been taken up for investigation. Statements of witnesses, including family members and neighbours named in the complaint, will be recorded as part of the probe.
An official said appropriate sections of law relating to domestic cruelty have been invoked, and further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
