Woman dies after house collapse in Ahmedabad’s Dhana Suthar ni Pol

In Ahmedabad’s old city a deteriorated two-storey house collapsed in Dhana Suthar ni Pol, Kalupur, during the early hours of Wednesday, resulting in the death of a 40-year-old woman and injuries to another.
The Ahmedabad Fire Brigade teams rushed to the scene and rescued both women from the rubble. While a 70-year-old woman was safely pulled out, a 40-year-old woman identified as Kalpana succumbed to her injuries after a pillar fell on her during the collapse. She was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The building, which was old and in a dilapidated condition, came crashing down near the Gajjar ni Khacha area of the pol. Officials from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) have launched an investigation into the incident to ascertain the structural integrity of other similar buildings in the area and prevent such tragedies in the future.
The operation was carried out between 3.40 am and 4.30 am by personnel from the Panchkuva Fire Station.
Ramilaben Ramanshankar Darji, aged 70, and Kalpanaben Nilesh Darji, aged 40, were both sent to the nearby hospital for treatment via the 108 ambulance service.
