Woman caught with ₹50 lakh worth gold jewellery at Ahmedabad airport

As the episode of gold smuggling continues at Ahmedabad airport, a woman was caught with gold jewellery worth ₹50 lakh at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVIP) on Saturday night.
The Custom officials caught the woman passenger travelling via Etihad Airways and seized gold jewellery worth ₹50 lakh.
Based on a suspicion, the woman’s bag was checked and custom officials found 18 carat and 9 carat of gold jewellery worth ₹50 lakh.
The woman initially tried to mislead the investigation saying that the jewellery was imitation.
However, the customs revealed that she was one of the ‘carriers’ working in the network of gold smuggling, meant for tax evasion.
Last week, two passengers who arrived from Dubai at Ahmedabad airport, were nabbed carrying 1,400 cigarettes and ₹30 lakh of tax evasion gold jewellery.
