Ahmedabad Airport police in have registered a case against an unidentified woman after a video purportedly showing her running on a public road with a burning object in her hand surfaced on social media, police said on Thursday.

According to Police Constable Niteshkumar Hanumanbhai, the incident came to light on May 28 while police personnel were present at the Surveillance Squad Police Chowki under Airport Police Station limits.

Police said officers were monitoring social media platform X when they came across a video. The video allegedly showed a woman dressed in a red saree-like outfit with a white cloth wrapped around her head, running on a public road while carrying a burning object in her hand.

Following this, senior officers instructed the police team to verify the location and circumstances of the incident. Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident had allegedly occurred on the public road stretch between Airport Circle and Zundal Circle in Ahmedabad.

The unidentified woman had allegedly acted in a reckless and negligent manner by carrying and running with a burning object on a public road, thereby endangering human life and creating the possibility of injury or harm to members of the public.

Airport police have registered a case under Section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, pertaining to negligent conduct with fire or combustible matter.

Police said efforts are under way to identify the woman seen in the video and ascertain the exact circumstances behind the incident.
