Woman BLO detained for not joining the duty in Ahmedabad

With Lok Sabha Elections in sight, action was taken against a teacher in Ahmedabad, as she did not appear for the work as Booth Level Officer (BLO).
Hinal Prajapati was assigned the duty of BLO at Chenpur Primary School but did not show up for the work, therefore inviting a police action against herself.
On the other hand, Prajapati’s husband said, “A letter from Gujarat Election Commission says that women BLOs are appointed only in unavoidable circumstances, and they are only assigned to the constituency they belong to.”
Citing these reasons, Prajapati’s husband informed that the letter was attached with a submission that the duty should not have been assigned to Prajapati, and if it were to be, she had to be deployed in her constituency.
He added that the rejection of the duty was due to the distance to the booth from her residence. The husband also added that this is the first instance when a woman has been detained for not joining her duty as a BLO.
“We have submitted in writing with supporting evidence. We will present the matter in the union, and even if we need to go to court, we are ready,” said the husband.
The deputy collector clarified that the warrant was issued since the teacher did not appear for duty even after a notice.
She was asked to clarify her stance in writing, and considering the application, she will be assigned a duty in another constituency, said the deputy collector.
