Woman attempts suicide amid demolition drive in Jashodanagar, residents hurl stones at AMC officials

A stone-pelting incident targeting officials of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) was reported on Thursday, after residents of Jashodanagar reacted angrily to demolition notices issued to local shop owners.

According to reports, the AMC estate team had visited the area near Jayshree Society, Jashodanagar, to serve notices and carry out demolitions. During the operation, a woman attempted to immolate herself. She was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, residents of the society, enraged by the AMC’s actions, began pelting stones at the officials. Police were called to the scene and brought the situation under control.

Local residents alleged that the AMC was harassing shop owners under the pretext of demolition and was demanding ₹2 lakh from them. They staged a protest with banners after one shop was demolished by the AMC.
