Woman alleges assault at Adalaj society, 5 booked

A 23-year-old woman has alleged that she was assaulted and an attempt was made to sexually assault her by a group of individuals in a residential society in Adalaj on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. Adalaj police have registered an FIR against five persons and initiated an investigation.
According to police, the incident took place around 9.30 pm on April 1 at a society in Lilapur. Rekha (name changed) stated that she was walking within the society premises while speaking on the phone when the main accused, identified as Hiranbhai Savjibhai Chaudhary, approached her and began abusing her.
Chaudhary allegedly carrying an iron pipe assaulted the woman, grabbed her by the face and neck, and attempted to drag her with the intent to assault her sexually. During the scuffle, her T-shirt was torn, and she sustained injuries after being struck with the pipe and fists.
Hearing her screams, neighbours identified as Tulsibhai, Jashubhai and a woman named Shobhanaben allegedly joined in and assaulted the complainant. Another individual later slapped her, the complaint states.
When the victim’s mother and brother rushed to the spot, the accused allegedly attacked them as well. The complainant’s brother was reportedly beaten with an iron pipe, causing injuries to his hands. The accused also allegedly damaged the complainant’s mobile phone and spectacles and caused a gold chain belonging to a family member to go missing during the altercation.
Residents intervened and separated the parties. The injured were taken to Sola Civil Hospital in an 108 ambulance for treatment. The complainant later approached the police station, from where she was again shifted for medical care due to pain.
The accused threatened the complainant and her family with dire consequences while leaving the scene.
