Withdrawal of monsoon begins in Gujarat Deesa Kutch first to bid farewell

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) announced the withdrawal of monsoon from Gujarat on Tuesday. In Kutch district’s Bhuj, and in Banaskantha up to Deesa, the southwest monsoon of 2025 has officially ended. The expected withdrawal of monsoon is September 25, but it has begun a week earlier.

It was an early onset of monsoon in the state – on June 16 in place of June 20 in South Gujarat, and on June 17 in place of June 25 in Saurashtra–Kutch.

Meanwhile, Kaprada in Valsad received 2.5 inches of rain today, and Vyara in Tapi district recorded about 1.5 inches. So far, Gujarat has received nearly 109% of the season’s rainfall.

Although scattered showers may still occur in some parts of the state, no system is active that could cause heavy rainfall. The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall in south Gujarat and Saurashtra for the next two days.

Within a week, the monsoon will officially withdraw from the entire state, including Saurashtra. Notably, the withdrawal line of the monsoon usually progresses from the northwest to the southeast, which is why South Gujarat is the last to see its departure. Moreover, on Tuesday, the monsoon has also withdrawn up to Bathinda in Punjab, and Rajasthan will now experience dry weather.
