Before the controversy over a recent scuffle between BJP workers and the party treasurer in the city’s BJP office could rest, another incident has stirred fresh debate.
Prakash Khairnar, president of BJP’s Ward No 24 in Udhan, celebrated his birthday publicly on a city street, despite restrictions imposed by the police.
A video of the street celebration has gone viral on social media. The Police Commissioner had issued a public notice banning birthday celebrations in public spaces, citing law and order concerns. The viral footage has raised questions about whether authorities will take action against the ward president.
According to reports, Khairnar’s birthday celebration included cake cutting, fireworks, and a large gathering of party supporters outside Sai Baba Nagar Co-operative Society. The event was recorded and shared widely, further fueling public debate.
While ordinary citizens are often held accountable under the law, the bold public celebration by a local BJP leader has sparked criticism.
City residents and political observers are now watching closely to see how the police will respond. Questions are being raised about whether any legal action will be taken or if the event will be overlooked due to the celebrant’s political position.
Following the Khairnar incident, reports emerged that BJP councillor Amitsingh Rajput of Surat’s Ward No 26 staged a public spectacle in the name of birthday celebrations. A video of the event had gone viral on social media.
