Western Railway Connects 30 Stations on Rajkot–Okha Section to Modern Communication Network

Western Railway has upgraded train control communication across 30 stations on the Rajkot–Okha rail section by migrating the existing system to a modern MPLS-based Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) network.

The Rajkot Division completed the migration on November 3 through its Signal and Telecommunication Department. The new system is expected to improve communication between train controllers and station staff, making train operations more reliable and efficient.

30 Stations Integrated Into New Communication Network

According to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Sunil Kumar Meena, the IP-based communication network will improve the reliability of operational communication and simplify the monitoring and management of railway communication services.

The network covers the Rajkot–Okha main line and three branch sections, with a total of 30 stations connected.

The sections include:

  • Rajkot–Okha main line: 252 km
  • Kanalus–Sikka branch line: 14.5 km
  • Jamnagar–Vansjaliya section: 2 km
  • Madhapar–Nayara Energy Limited (Modpar) section: 12 km

The combined length of these sections is 280.5 km.

New Network Under One-Month Monitoring

Following the migration, Western Railway has placed the new communication network under a one-month monitoring period to assess its stability and operational performance.

Railway officials will closely monitor the system before migrating other telecommunication services to the network in phases.

The upgraded infrastructure is expected to support better communication monitoring, streamlined network management and the expansion of additional railway telecommunication services.

Rajkot Division Highlights Modernisation Drive

Giriraj Kumar Meena, Divisional Railway Manager of the Rajkot Division, said the successful implementation reflected the technical expertise and teamwork of railway officers and staff.

The migration marks another step in Western Railway's efforts to modernise communication infrastructure and strengthen the systems supporting train operations.
