Flooded roads of Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad witnessed an average rainfall of 62.32 mm between 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on June 30. A total of 10.50 inches of seasonal rain was recorded.

Jodhpur received more than six and half inches of rain within two hours while Bopal received four inches and Bodakdev received three and a half inches of rain. 

Underpasses were closed

Sindhu Bhavan Road and the Mithakhali area were also flooded. The authorities closed Akhbar Nagar, Parimal, and the Makarba underpass for traffic. 

A total of seven gates of the Vasna barrage were opened by three feet. 

Road towards Civil Hospital blocked

Areas near the SG Highway, Shyamal, Prahaladnagar, and Iskcon cross road  were blocked with water.

Up to three feet of rainwater flooded several societies near Shahibaug, and the main road leading to the Civil Hospital was also flooded.

Lives of citizens disrupted

Meanwhile, citizens' routines were highly affected in areas like Sarkhej, Maktampura, Paldi, Usmanpura, Ranip, Bodakdev, and Science City, along with Gota, Chandlodia, Chandkheda, Danapith, Dudheshwar, Maninagar, and Memco areas.

Commuters’ plight

Due to the heavy rain since the evening, the visibility was reduced, and commuters were stuck on the road. The four-lane service road leading to Narol from the Isanpur Highway was submerged in rainwater. Commuters near the Makarba underpass were highly affected due to water logging, commuters with vehicles were forced to either leave their vehicles at the spot or drag it along on their feet since the vehicles broke down due to waterlogging. 

Despite the chaos, humanity was a show-stopper!

At times like these, the city pours in to help. The most common scene noticed at almost  every crossroad was of Amdavadis  helping those in need. Some were seen helping to push the cars, and others helped free scooters out of the potholes. Citizens helping manage traffic has almost become a common sight. An IT professional Soha Shah who was on her way from Makarba towards Paldi when her two-wheeler got stuck in muck. Within a few minutes, a couple of samaritans gathered and immediately helped her.

Meanwhile, Sneh Patel, who runs an ad agency, was on his way home from Iskcon cross roads when he noticed an elderly man who missed his bus. Patel dropped him to Ujaala chowkdi amid heavy rain and flooded roads.
