Weather report: IMD issues very heavy rainfall warning for Gujarat and other states
Rainfall is predicted in certain areas of Gujarat, especially Panchmahal, Dahod, Godhra, Navsari, the Dangs, Saputara, and Himmatnagar

After an extended pause of over a month, heavy rainfall is looming over Gujarat skies once again.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather forecast today that stated, “Active monsoon conditions are likely to continue over the north peninsula, central India, and adjoining east India during the next five days.”
Will it rain during Janmashtami in Gujarat?
Most of Gujarat witnessed no signs of rainfall during August, and after a dry spell and scorching high temperatures, moderate rain has been recorded in some areas of south Gujarat.
According to IMD, India experienced its hottest and driest August in recorded history.
However, IMD predicted light to moderate rain in several districts of Gujarat for the upcoming week from Sept 4-10.
Today’s weather report
Earlier today, areas including Navsari, the Dangs, Godhra, and Saputara received moderate rain.
Moreover, heavy to extremely heavy rains are predicted in most of the districts of the state until Sept 12. Rainfall is predicted in the areas mentioned above including the districts of Panchmahal, Dahod, and Himmatnagar.
21 districts witnessed scarcity of 91% rainfall
Despite the state witnessing 81.85% rainfall till Sept 5, 21 districts of the state are lacking more than 91% of rain.
August witnessed a decline in rainfall of 1.5 inch, compared to last year’s 9 inch. Porbandar has been the most deficient district in the state, with 99% less rainfall.
On the other hand, Kutch has received 136.19% rainfall this season, north Gujarat 67.96%, central Gujarat 66.19%, Saurashtra 110.12%, and south Gujarat 73.74%.
90 dams at 90% capacity despite sparse rainfall
Out of 206 water bodies in the state, 76.60% had reached their maximum capacity by the end of August.
15 dams in north Gujarat have reached the water storage level of 74.27%, 17 dams in central Gujarat are at45.36%, 13 dams in south Gujarat stand at 76.33% capacity, 20 dams in Kutch are at 62.37%, and 141 dams in Saurashtra are currently filled to 81.93% of their capacity. Sardar Sarovar Dam has now reached a capacity level of 84.05%.
Currently, with more than 90% of water levels, 90 dams in the state are on high alert, while 25 dams filled with more than 80% are on alert.
70 dams that are more than 70% full are currently on warning while 74 dams have less than 70% of their water capacity.
What brings rain to Gujarat?
IMD said that under the influence of cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal on Sept 4, a low pressure area has formed over the north west and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal off the south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts this morning.
It is very likely to move nearly westward across south Odisha and south Chhattisgarh during the next 24 hours.
Which states will receive rainfall?
IMD issued forecast of isolated rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected over Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh, west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, east Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
