Water tanks at Dudheshwar, Vejalpur set to curb water issues in the vicinities

In a meeting of Amdavad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) water committee, a permit to build water tanks in the city’s Vejalpur and Dudheshwar areas was granted.
The water tanks at Vejalpur and Dudheshwar are set to have 51 lakh litres and 20 lakh litre capacities, respectively, and will cater to a population of more than 1 lakh.
Alongside, approval for the repair work on 12 water tanks at Dudheshwar Water Works was granted at the meeting.
A proposal with the agenda to construct a sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 75 ml/d (million litres per day) in the Vinzol area was also sanctioned in the meeting.
Water tanks in Dudheshwar and Vejalpur
AMC has approved the construction of the water tank in Vejalpur ward under the Central government’s Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 and State Water Action Plan (SWAP) 3.0.
AMC’s Water Supply and Sewerage Committee chairman Dilip Bagaria mentioned, “In Phase-1, a water tank of 15 lakh litre capacity and an underground tank with a pump house of 22 lakh litre capacity will be constructed.”
He added, “In Phase-2, demolition of an old dilapidated underground tank will be done, which will be replaced by an underground tank with a 29.42 lakh-litre capacity. Its operation for five years and maintenance will be carried out by a contractor, RC Patel, in a joint venture with SN Associate at ₹ 14.90 cr, 24.11% more than the pre-approved estimated tender.”
Bagaria said, “The problem of providing water with five staggerings throughout the day will be solved in the Vejalpur ward. More than one lakh people are estimated to benefit from this work.”
In Dudheshwar, an underground tank with a pump house of 20 lakh litres is to be constructed in the compound of Dudheshwar Water Works, the contract for which has been granted to P Das Infrastructure pvt ltd.
Approval has also been granted for repairing water tanks located at Dudheshwar Water Works.
