Just days after prolonged water cuts across Ahmedabad due to Narmada Canal repair work, locals in parts of the city are set to face fresh supply disruption as a major leakage has been detected in the main pipeline connected to the Jaspur Water Treatment Plant.

According to the Amdavad Municipal Corporation, leakage was detected in an 800 mm diameter water pipeline near a showroom located on the stretch between Prahladnagar and Anandnagar crossroads.

Officials said repair work would begin after completion of the morning water supply on May 12. As part of the operation, the branch line valve near Prahladnagar Junction will remain closed during the repairs.

Due to the maintenance work, water will be supplied only as per available quantity in several localities falling under Vejalpur and Jodhpur wards.

The affected areas are expected to include Prahladnagar, Shraddha, Pramukh, Gokul Awas, Sarabhai area, Shaivali, Salpara, Suryanagar, Baldevnagar and areas connected to the Dewas Water Distribution Station.

The development comes shortly after residents in five zones of the city faced water cuts for nearly 10 days owing to repair work in the Narmada Canal network.

Civic authorities said efforts were being made to minimise disruption by maintaining alternative water arrangements across the city.

Officials stated that around 1,050 MLD (million litres per day) of water was currently being supplied from Kotarpur Water Works. Additional supply is also being sourced through operational borewells at various water distribution stations and around 220 MLD of water from Raska.

Authorities added that water from the Jaspur Water Treatment Plant was also being supplied to areas including Sabarmati, Chandkheda and Motera.
