Waiting list crosses 100 on Ahmedabad–North India trains amid summer rush

Passengers travelling from Ahmedabad to northern parts of the country are facing long waiting lists on trains, with sleeper-class waitlists exceeding 100 on several routes amid the summer holiday rush.
The waiting time in sleeper class on most trains from Ahmedabad to destinations such as Delhi, Haridwar and Ayodhya has exceeded 70, making it difficult for passengers to secure confirmed tickets.
According to railway sources, trains on the Ahmedabad–Delhi route are witnessing the heaviest demand. The Yoga Express has reported no availability in sleeper and AC classes from April 18 to 20.
Similarly, the Ashram Express has recorded waiting lists of 121 on April 19, 109 on April 20 and 117 on April 21 in the sleeper class, with no confirmed tickets available on April 18.
Trains to Haridwar and Ayodhya are also witnessing waiting lists of over 70, while the Ahmedabad–Patna route has seen waitlists rise to as high as 143 in the third week of April.
Officials said the surge in demand during the summer vacation period may necessitate the introduction of additional services.
Sources in Indian Railways said plans are under way to operate 1,484 summer special trains to manage the seasonal rush. These include 749 reserved services and 735 unreserved trains.
