Verbal dispute over electricity bill documents turns violent in Ahmedabad's Anandnagar, jeweller alleges assault by father-son duo
A dispute allegedly linked to electricity bill documentation escalated into violence in Ahmedabad's Anandnagar area on Monday night, with a city-based jeweller accusing a neighbouring father and son of assaulting him and his nephew following a heated confrontation outside his residence.
According to Anandnagar Police, Vijay Shah (44), owner of Better Half Jewellers in Vastrapur, alleged that the incident occurred at around 9.15 pm on June 22 on a public road outside his residence at Shyam Sundar Bungalows near the Shell Petrol Pump in Anandnagar.
Shah told police that the altercation stemmed from an issue related to signing documents required for a name change in an electricity bill. He claimed that his brother had been attempting to contact neighbour Manishbhai Sevantilal Zaveri, but after receiving no response, Shah himself telephoned Zaveri.
The conversation soon turned into a heated argument, after which Zaveri allegedly called back and challenged Shah to come outside his residence.
Shah stated that he, along with his nephew Jeanit, stepped outside the bungalow gate where Manishbhai Zaveri and his son, Agam Manishbhai Zaveri, had allegedly arrived in a car. What began as a verbal exchange soon escalated into a physical confrontation.
The complainant alleged that Manishbhai restrained him while Agam assaulted him with a stick. Shah further alleged that Manishbhai struck him on the head and that both men abused him and continued the assault. When his nephew attempted to intervene, he too was allegedly beaten with the stick.
A crowd gathered at the scene following the commotion, after which the accused allegedly threatened to kill the complainant if he contacted them again before fleeing the spot.
Police said family members subsequently arrived at the scene and informed emergency services. A police control room vehicle responded to the incident, following which Shah was shifted by a 108 ambulance to AIIMS Hospital in Paldi for treatment. He told police that he suffered injuries on multiple parts of his body and was undergoing medical treatment when his complaint was recorded.
Based on Shah's statement, Anandnagar Police have registered an FIR against Manishbhai Sevantilal Zaveri and Agam Manishbhai Zaveri on charges related to assault, criminal intimidation and abuse.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining the circumstances that led to the alleged attack.
