Vejalpur firing: Three held, pistol sourced from Surat, says ACP

The Vejalpur police have arrested three men in connection with a late-night firing incident on February 13 in the Vejalpur area of Ahmedabad, in which a 28-year-old man sustained a bullet injury to his leg.
ACP A B Vanand of M Division told media persons that the incident took place near Bismillah Bakery, close to a tea stall outside Diwan Parlour. “Two rounds were fired during the altercation. The complainant, Mudassar Pathan, was hit on the right leg,” Vanand said.
The firing followed a dispute over seating at the tea stall. The accused allegedly arrived at the spot, hurled abuses and issued threats. During the confrontation, one of them reportedly shouted, “Where is Faizan?” before opening fire. One bullet struck the complainant on his right leg, while a second round was fired towards the tea stall.
An FIR was registered against Arbaaz Ayub Sheikh and two of his associates. The Vejalpur police subsequently arrested Arbaaz Sheikh, identified as the prime accused, along with Shoaib Kasam and Rizwan Shezan.
Police said a pistol used in the offence has been recovered from Arbaaz Sheikh. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the weapon was allegedly procured from a person named Ajay in Surat. Officers are now working to trace the source of the firearm and verify its legality.
ACP Vanand said the accused had brought the weapon purportedly to “show off” and intimidate others. “They abused the victim and threatened to kill him before opening fire,” he added.
While no prior criminal record has so far been found against the accused, police said they are examining whether the trio were involved in any other unlawful activities. Further investigation is under way.
