Vehicle theft accused dies after consuming disinfectant at police station in Surat

In a  shocking incident that has put the police in a spot, a vehicle theft accused died at Sachin Police Station in Surat after drinking a disinfectant  during police questioning.

According to the police, the accused was caught from Godhra based on technical evidence in a vehicle theft case. He was brought to Surat for further investigation.

During interrogation at the police station, the accused sought permission to use the washroom. While inside he drank a disinfectant that was kept there for cleaning purposes.

Soon after, his health deteriorated. Police personnel quickly shifted him to Surat Civil Hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The death of the accused in police custody has raised questions about safety inside the police station.

Senior police officers have started an investigation to find out how the accused got access to a disinfectant and whether there was any negligence by the police personnel.
