Vatva Police trace missing twin brothers after four-day search, 400 CCTV checks

A painstaking four-day search operation involving the analysis of nearly 400 CCTV recordings across multiple railway stations helped Ahmedabad Police trace and reunite two missing twin brothers with their family after the children travelled from Ahmedabad to Mumbai without informing anyone.

The operation was carried out by the Vatva Police Station under the supervision of senior officers as part of an ongoing drive to trace missing children.

According to a police, the missing boys, Piyush Thakur and Ayush Thakur, both aged 12, are residents of Jagannathpuri Society in the Vatva area. The twins allegedly left home on the afternoon of May 31 without informing their family, prompting their parents to approach the police.

Following the complaint, Vatva Police registered a case and launched an intensive search operation. Given the age of the children and the uncertainty surrounding their whereabouts, the case was treated as a priority.

Investigators formed multiple teams and began examining CCTV footage from the locality and nearby transit points. During the course of the investigation, officers discovered footage showing the boys boarding a train from Vatva Railway Station.

The finding prompted police to alert railway authorities and law enforcement agencies at stations along the suspected route. Photographs of the children were circulated through social media platforms, police networks and local police stations in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

The CCTV trail revealed that the boys had left home on their bicycles, taken them to Vatva Railway Station and boarded a train towards Vadodara. After alighting at Bajwa railway station, they reportedly cycled to Vadodara Railway Station and subsequently boarded another train bound for Mumbai.

Police said the twins spent nearly two days in Mumbai before beginning their return journey to Gujarat. Throughout the search operation, teams continuously tracked their movements through surveillance footage collected from multiple railway stations.

Officials said approximately 400 CCTV recordings were examined and analysed over four consecutive days before investigators finally located the boys at Vadodara Railway Station.

A police team immediately reached the location, secured the children and brought them back to Ahmedabad, where they were reunited with their relieved parents.

Senior officers commended the coordinated efforts of the surveillance and investigation teams, noting that the successful operation relied heavily on meticulous CCTV analysis, inter-agency coordination and swift information-sharing between police units and railway authorities.

Police said the children were found safe and unharmed.
