Two brothers from Vatva have been booked for attempted murder and criminal intimidation after allegedly attacking their society chairman and a neighbour with an iron tool during a dispute over parking on the evening of September 28, police said.

According to Vatva police, complainant Tulsiram Namdev (47) a businessman and chairman of his housing society near M N Vidyalaya, was helping other residents drain rainwater from the Navratri pavilion in the society compound around 7 pm on Sunday when the incident took place.

Tulsiram told police that Rishabh Tiwari and Saurabh Tiwari, residents of the same society, parked their Activa scooter next to the pavilion. When Tulsiram and his neighbour Bhavsar asked them to move the vehicle, the brothers allegedly flew into a rage.

Soon an argument ensued between them, during which Rishabh picked up a a heavy iron rod and struck Tulsiram  repeatedly on the head. When Bhavsar intervened, he too was attacked. Saurabh allegedly joined in, hitting both men and scuffling with society members who tried to separate them.

Other residents rushed to the spot on hearing the commotion, after which the brothers fled.

Tulsiram and Bhavsar were taken to a private hospital where doctors found serious head injuries; Tulsiram required 34 stitches.

Police have booked the accused under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and under the Gujarat Police Act and have arrested both the accused in the matter. While further investigation is on.

“Preliminary evidence suggests that a heated argument over parking escalated into violence. Both victims are now stable and recovering,” said Vatva police inspector.
